Monitoring Reports

Providing a snapshot of the representation of women on boards in listed companies, the banking sector and the public enterprise sector in Egypt. The report also includes a simple indicator for women on boards in Egypt and identifies the gap of women on boards in each sector to reach the target of the 2030 strategy.

Women on Boards Annual Monitoring Report 2025

The 8th edition of the Women on Boards Annual Monitoring Report covering the year 2025 is considered a turning point since the inception of the report, due to the growth slowdown of the WoB indicator for the second consecutive year, as it recorded 24.8% in 2025 compared to 24.3% in 2024 to mark a slight positive growth rate of 2.1%, therefore, the indicator has to realize 5.2% to achieve the national goal of 30% women on boards by 2030.

The Non-Banking Financial Services (NBFS) sector is the leading sector and the closest to achieve 2030 goal. It recorded the highest representation of women on boards among the four partners, reaching 26.9% in 2025 with a positive growth
rate of 1.8% in comparison to 2024. It also realized a notable growth in the number of women on boards, reaching 1,236 women in 2025, with an increase of 8.4% compared to 2024. Followed by EGX listed companies, which reached a representation of women on boards of 22.3% with a total number of 451 women on boards, while the banking sector recorded 22.1% reaching a total number of 75 women on boards, and the public enterprise sector stood at 11.8% with only 39 women on boards.

The banking sector achieved a new milestone in 2025, as all banks have at least one woman on their boards, while companies with Zero WoB remained low in EGX at 4.6% and NBFS at 9.8%, but high in the public enterprise sector at 52.9%.

The annual estimated gap to reach 2030 goal in companies and banks increased from 67 women in 2024 to reach 77 women in 2025, in which EGX needs to place 31 women on listed companies’ boards, followed by the NBFS which needs to
introduce 29 women to companies’ boards, while companies of the public sector enterprise and banks need to include 12 and five women in their boards, respectively.

Women on Boards Annual Monitoring Report 2024

According to the 2024 annual monitoring report, which is the seventh report issued by the AUC Women on Board Observatory, the WoB (Women on Boards) indicator recorded 24.3%, marking an increment of 1% in comparison to 2023 and a growth rate of 4.7%. The overall WoB indicator has more than doubled in five years, increasing from 10% in 2019 to 24.3%, its highest level, in 2024.
The WoB indicator progressed positively on an annual basis, increasing substantially from 10% in 2019 to 13% in 2020 and finally to 24.3% in 2024. The WoB indicator is left with an overall 5.7% to be achieved in the upcoming six years in order to meet the 30% goal.

The non-banking financial sector (NBFS) is still leading by the number of companies, the number of women on boards and women on board’s representation. The WoB percentage achieved in NBFS increased by an increment of 1.2% in 2024 and marking a representation of 26.4% in 2024 versus 25.2% in 2023. The NBFS is still the closest to achieving the 30% goal before 2030, followed by EGX-listed companies, marking a WoB representation of 22%, the banking sector at 18.8% and the public enterprise sector at 12.2%. All partners have shown almost no change in terms of WoB representation, except for the NBFS, which increased by a 4.8% growth rate in one year. Therefore, the overall WoB indicator could be mainly attributed to the positive growth observed in women on boards’ representation in the non-banking financial sector in 2024.
