Fairwork

A2K4D represents Egypt in the global Fairwork network, engaging in research and raising awareness about fair work in the platform economy, and highlighting best and worst practices in the platform economy. The network includes partners at the University of Oxford, the University of Cape Town, IIITB, the Technical University of Berlin, the University of Manchester, and the University of the Western Cape. The network is actively engaged in research in India, South Africa, the UK, Germany, Chile, Indonesia, Ecuador, and Pakistan. 

A2K4D researchers will work to translate Fairwork principles into measurable thresholds suitable to the context of Egypt and will conduct research to evaluate platforms against those thresholds, and publish results to raise awareness on this budding form of work in Egypt.

Access to Knowledge Global Academy (A2KGA)

The A2KGA is a collaborative network of academic and research centers committed to research, education, and policy advice promoting access to knowledge (A2K). Representing a rich geographical diversity, the members of the A2KGA include institutions from Brazil, China, Egypt, India, South Africa, and the United States.

CopyrightX Affiliate Network

Through A2K4D, AUC is a member of the CopyrightX Affiliate Community. CopyrightX is a twelve-week networked course offered each spring semester under the auspices of Harvard Law School, the HarvardX distance-learning initiative, and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. The course explores the current law of copyright and the ongoing debates concerning how that law should be reformed. Through a combination of pre-recorded lectures, weekly seminars, live webcasts, and online discussions, course participants examine and assess ways in which law seeks to stimulate and regulate creative expression.

Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers

A2K4D is a participant in the interdisciplinary Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers (NoC). Championed by Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society, NoC is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions with a focus on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications and legal issues concerning the Internet.

A2K4D is the North African Hub of Open AIR, a research partnership committed to recognizing Africa’s role in the global knowledge economy and discovering which knowledge governance policies will best ensure that the social and economic benefits of innovation are shared inclusively.
