Students Competitions
Annual International Case Competition (ICC)
The ICC brings together teams of students from all over the world to compete in solving a challenging business case. This competition is the first of its kind organized in Egypt and focused on business challenges facing high-growth entrepreneurial ventures.
The competition provides students with a unique learning experience to understand the business and entrepreneurship landscape in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East, including complex issues around consumer behavior, economic trends, regulatory and policy reforms, technology adoption, and the supporting ecosystem.
The aim of the case-solving competition is to blend a cross-cultural understanding of working with Egyptian students and entrepreneurs with a grasp of Egyptian culture in a well-designed process.
Annual Hackathon (HACK)
Hackathons were launched in June 2020, and it was a great tool to increase students' experience working in small groups and sharing their creative skills; while igniting innovative solutions to current social and economic problems. Hackathons also provide great accessibility to scholarships and mentorships.
The competition aimed at creating technological solutions that inspire a more sustainable, accessible, and resilient future for our communities.
Shorooq Partners Venture Capital Case Competition (VCC)
The American University in Cairo (AUC) School of Business Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) joins forces with Shorooq Partners, the Middle East’s Leading Early Stage Venture Capital Fund, launched Egypt’s first venture capital case competition, the “Shorooq Partners Venture Capital Case Competition” on 2023. The competition is designed as an experiential case competition, with the objective of allowing students to assume the role of a venture capitalist through a simulation, where they hypothetically invest $100,000 in a real start-up. Students will work with real-life data to create realistic content assessing a start-up, performing in-depth due diligence, evaluating investment prospects, and developing investment plans that will be presented to a judging panel from Shorooq Partners.
As a first-year pilot, this competition is targeting AUC multidisciplinary undergraduate junior and senior student teams only. However, in upcoming rounds, the competition will be expanded to invite students from all Egyptian public and private universities. This initiative is a great opportunity for the students to bring out the investors within, as well as help them understand the dynamics and variables that go into start-up funding, managing dedicated resources such as time, money, and people, and practicing data management through identifying gaps, building questions, gathering insights, and constructing a solid decision based on inputs. It will also give them the chance to present, negotiate and debate their findings, enhancing their critical and interpersonal skills. Moreover, Participants will also be exposed to a real start-up pitch deck complemented by a capacity-building training session provided by an expert from Shorooq Partners. Furthermore, attractive financial awards with a total of $4,000 for the top teams will be announced during the closing of the competition.
