AUC School of Business submits its third SIP report to the PRME Network

أغسطس 29, 2017

As part of its commitment to promote and expand the boundaries of responsible business practices, the American University in Cairo (AUC) School of Business published its third Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

This year’s report marks the third occasion, following 2013 and 2015, of the School presenting an overview of its responsible business initiatives and practices to the PRME network.

As the world’s largest organized network between the United Nations and business education institutes, the PRME initiative aims to guide business education and research towards a more globally enriching and sustainable pathway.

The AUC School of Business has long been a core supporter of PRME. Not only does the School adhere to the 10 UNGC guiding principles for human rights, anti-corruption, labor and the environment, but it also aspires to play a pivotal role in promoting transparent, responsible and ethical business practices to its students, alumni and community.

In fact, the School’s commitment to PRME is formally emphasized through the integration of responsible business into its “2030 Vision”. The School is also constantly engaged with various organizations in initiatives that promote corporate and sustainable responsibilities.

Moreover, the John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy, Civic Engagement and Responsible Business within the School has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with UN Global Compact Network Egypt.  Through this partnership, both parties will work together on advancing sustainability, building capacity and raising awareness on the importance of corporate social responsibility.

Academically, the AUC of Business has chosen to tackle responsible business by embedding it throughout many of its courses, rather than devoting entire classes to addressing the issue.

Undergraduate students majoring in business, accounting or economics, are all obliged to take at least one course that explicitly analyzes sustainable business practices in depth, all while being constantly exposed to similar ideas in virtually all of their classes.

“It is our duty to instill principles for responsible management in our students and to integrate it in our activities towards the community as well,” affirmed AUC School of Business Interim Dean, Nizar Becheikh. “We look forward to a further infusion of responsible management education in our ecosystem and for us to be an active change agent in promoting responsible business practices among our constituents and beyond.”
